Dr. Scott Koenig, MacroGenics Inc., Board Chairman
Scott Koenig is President and Chief Executive Officer of MacroGenics Inc., a private, venture-backed biotechnology company focused on the development of immunotherapeutics for the treatment of cancer, autoimmune disorders, and infectious diseases. Prior to joining MacroGenics in 2001, he served as Senior Vice President of Research at MedImmune Inc., where he participated in the selection and maturation of the product pipeline for 11 years. From 1984 to 1990, he worked at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at NIH, where he investigated the immune response to retroviruses and studied the pathogenesis of AIDS. Dr. Koenig received his A.B. and Ph.D. from Cornell University and his M.D. from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and is Board certified in Internal Medicine and Allergy and Immunology. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Scientific Counselors at the NIAID, NIH and the Life Sciences Advisory Board at Cornell University. |

Dr. Garheng Kong, Intersouth Partners
Garheng is a partner at Intersouth Partners, where he focuses on the firm’s life sciences portfolio. He has been a clinical scientist at Glaxo Wellcome and was actively involved in commercializing early-stage technology with the Duke University Office of Science and Technology. Garheng has led investments and has board-level involvement across most of Intersouth’s life science companies.

Dr. David G. Lowe, Skyline Ventures
David joined Skyline Ventures in 2002. Prior to that he was a molecular biologist and Director of Cardiovascular Research at Genentech, Inc., where he worked for 16 years. At Genentech, David led drug discovery activities in biologics and small molecule therapeutics. He was responsible for drug discovery efforts that resulted in eight drugs that moved into clinical trials, including the successful cancer therapy Avastin™. David holds BS and PhD degrees in biochemistry from the University of Toronto, Canada. He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed scientific publications and is an inventor on 7 issued or pending US patents. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute of Molecular Medicine at the University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Nick Muzyczka, University of Florida
Nicholas Muzyczka received his PhD in biochemistry from Johns Hopkins University in 1974. He then began working on the development of gene therapy vectors in Dan Nathans’s laboratory. He continued this work at the University of Florida, Gainesville, and in 1984 he published the first general purpose AAV vector for gene transfer into mammalian cells. In 1985, Dr. Muzyczka moved to the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he focused on the basic biology of AAV and discovered the functions of the AAV Rep protein and studied the mechanisms of AAV DNA replication, integration and transcriptional control. He has published over a 100 peer reviewed manuscript related to AAV biology and AAV vector technology. He has also consulted for a number of biotechnology companies interested in commercializing AAV vector technology, including Genzyme, Avigen, Cell Genesys and GTI. In 1994, he returned to the University of Florida College of Medicine, where he became the founding Director of the UF Powell Gene Therapy Center. Subsequently, Dr. Muzyczka and four other colleagues at UF and the University of North Carolina founded AGTC, a company designed to commercialize the gene therapy applications developed at the Powell Gene Therapy Center. Dr. Muzyczka was the founding CEO and Chairman of the Board of AGTC, and he continues to serve on AGTC’s Board of Directors, and as a scientific consultant to the company. He is an inventor on over 20 issued or pending patents related to AAV vector technology and a recognized expert in the field of gene therapy. He currently serves on the NIH Recombinant Advisory Committee and the Board of Directors of the American Society for Gene Therapy. |

Dr. Arnold L. Oronsky, General Partner at InterWest
Dr. Arnold L. Oronsky has been a General Partner at InterWest since 1994. He was formerly Vice President for Discovery Research for the Lederle Laboratories division of American Cyanamid Company where he directed all of the research for new drugs and supervised approximately three hundred employees. Dr. Oronsky holds a Ph.D. in Immunology from Columbia University and has published over 125 scientific articles. In addition to being a Senior Partner at InterWest, he also serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Medical School. Dr. Oronsky serves as a Director on the Boards of eleven corporations.

Dr. Franklin H. Top, Jr., Medical Director of MedImmune, Inc.
Dr. Top is Medical Director of MedImmune, Inc. Since he joined MedImmune at its inception in 1988, he has served as Executive Vice President and member of its Board of Directors through 2003. From 1987 to 1988, Dr. Top was Senior Vice President for Clinical and Regulatory Affairs at Praxis Biologics. Prior to 1987, Dr. Top served for 21 years in the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command ultimately as Director and Commandant, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research from 1983-1987. Dr. Top is a pediatrician with research interests in infectious diseases and vaccines; he holds a Doctorate of Medicine cum laude and a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from Yale University. Dr. Top is a member of the Board of Directors of Applied Genetics Technologies Corporation and GlycoMimetics Incorporated, in addition to VaxInnate Corporation.

Sue Washer, President and CEO of AGTC
Sue Washer, President and CEO of AGTC, is an experienced entrepreneur with a strong scientific and operational background. She has a B.S. in biochemistry from Michigan State University and an MBA from the University of Florida where she was one of the first graduates from the Business School’s Entrepreneurship program. Sue has 10 years of pharmaceutical management and research experience from Abbott Labs and Eli Lilly as well as 11 years of senior management experience with entrepreneurial firms in the Gainesville area. Sue successfully raised over $15M for AGTC in their second round of funding in November of 2003. |

Fred Hutchison, Hutchison+Mason
Prior to founding Hutchison+Mason in 1996, Fred was a partner at Petree Stockton & Robinson (now Kilpatrick Stockton) and Moore & Van Allen. Fred spent five years practicing in the municipal finance, securities and bank regulatory areas with Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C. Fred’s outstanding leadership and unstinting support of clients is the key to Hutchison+Mason’s bedrock philosophy. He has believed from his career’s beginning that attorneys owe more to clients than conventional legal counsel. Fred has helped make H+M synonymous with innovation and growth among hundreds of business clients around the Southeast. He has done so by leading the way to real partnerships with our clients, creating and nurturing the networks that ensure success. His practice is focused on venture capital, securities and mergers and acquisitions. He enjoys counseling clients, both from the legal aspects, but also on business issues involved in starting and growing companies. Fred has represented more than 200 entrepreneurial companies over the years and has worked with some of the Triangle's leading technology companies, including Integrated Silicon Systems, Cree Research, Trimeris, SciQuest, Ganymede, Accipiter, OpenSite Technologies and Icagen. Fred has also been an active angel investor within the Research Triangle area over the last 20 years and was instrumental in the enactment and subsequent renewals of the Qualified Business Venture Tax Credit for North Carolina investors. Fred has served as a general partner in Research Triangle Ventures, a $10.3 million early stage venture capital fund focused on companies in the Research Triangle Park region of North Carolina. These investment activities, along with many years as a private angel investor, better equip Fred to advise clients on raising capital. Fred was the founding President of the Council for Entrepreneurial Development, the largest entrepreneurial support organization in the country. He has also served as the Chairman of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, the Chairman of the Business Innovation Technology Advancement Center (an incubator for early stage companies) and as founding Chairman of The Sports Council in Raleigh. Most recently he has served as the Chairman of the Triangle Community Foundation and Co-Chairman of the Entrepreneurial Advisory Committee for the Catalyst Project, whose goal is to increase the level of permanent philanthropic giving within the community. Fred has been recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in America. He is regularly recognized by Business North Carolina as one of the best corporate lawyers in the State. Electronic Business magazine recognized him in 1990 as one of the top 10 technology lawyers in the country. Fred earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1971 and his law degree from the University of Virginia in 1975. Fred is currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Technology Development Authority, a nonprofit organization which operates the First Flight incubator in the Research Triangle Park. |

Chris Ehrlich, InterWest Partners
Chris Ehrlich is a Partner with InterWest Partners, a leading diversified venture capital firm. As a member of the Life Sciences team, Mr. Ehrlich is involved in investing and building new businesses around entrepreneurs with novel bio-pharmaceutical technologies. Ehrlich is actively involved in numerous portfolio companies including AlgoRx Pharmaceuticals, Applied Genetic Technologies Corporation (AGTC), Avera Pharmaceuticals, Diatos, S.A., KAI Pharmaceuticals, MacroGenics, Inc., QuatRx Pharmaceuticals, Salmedix, Inc. and Xenon Genetics. He is currently a Director of Avera, KAI and Xenon and an observer on the BODs of AGTC, AlgoRx, MacroGenics, QuatRx and Salmedix. Prior to InterWest, Ehrlich was Director, Licensing & Business Development at Purdue Pharma, a private pharmaceutical firm based in Stamford, CT. In this position, he was responsible for developing a biologic oncology franchise, including in licensing key intellectual properties, establishing and managing collaborations with biotechnology companies and participating in the commercial operations of Purdue BioPharma, a biotechnology company located in Princeton, NJ. Prior to joining Purdue, Ehrlich worked in business development at Genentech, Inc., in venture capital at The U.S. Russia Investment Fund, and in biotechnology strategy development at LEK Consulting. Ehrlich earned an MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management in 1998, where he now serves as an Instructor of Biotechnology, and an A.B. cum laude, from Dartmouth College in 1992. |
